Transforming a Small Space: Jewel Box Powder Room

US based interior designer Nancy Hansen specialises in creating spaces to truly represent her clients stories. For one of her most recent projects, Nancy chose our Wisteria Midnight Mint mural to create a beautiful 'Jewel box' of a powder room, transforming the small space into a luxurious and opulent room her clients could be proud of.

How did you decide on our Wisteria Midnight Mint mural for the room?
My clients and I knew we wanted to use a rich mural wallcovering. It was actually my clients who first discovered the Woodchip & Magnolia website and we landed on the Wisteria design - it felt perfect!

What was your inspiration behind the design of the room?
This was a lovely older home along Philadelphia's main line. We wanted the powder room to feel understatedly elegant. I love creating powder rooms that feel like a jewel box; a place in your home for guests to step in and say "WOW! That was clever!".

Do you have any tips when it comes to decorating small spaces like this powder room?
Don't be concerned with the size of the space. If you want to go with a deep palette, go for it! Mirrors and the right lighting can really open up a space. Be aware of scale, balance and proportion of all the elements in a room.

How would you describe your design style?
I'm not sure I have a signature style, other than that I tend to stay away from trends and instead let the architecture of a home lead the way. Classic with a twist and not overly decorated.
